Question #31 – Can people who are hesitant about possibility be invited to engage in humanity learning?
There are two levels to this answer, one as a principle and the other being a finding in practice. The foundational premise, has to be, that humanity learning is radically inclusive. All members of humanity are invited to engage with this form of learning. The invitation is always open to those who are open.
There is a personal choice in this invite. New learning will involve considerations of comfort, identity, and envisaged possibility. Hesitancy, vulnerability, and uncertainty are very real and valid experiences when engaging in learning something unfamiliar. There is also a natural embarrassment in the exercise of knowledge humility, that can be a personal barrier to the sufficient and already self-confident.
The practice of apithology, being informed about how our conceptions form, is profoundly respectful of people's own meaning making. Each will make their own (life) choice.
We have noticed, at a more nuanced level in practice, that there are four aspects to the held orientation to humanity learning that may be indicative of future engagement.
In apithology, being a theory of generative possibility, one dynamic revealed early is our relationship to closure. We might be closed to closure (p.), open to closure (p+), closed to openness (a_), or open to openness (a^). We find those who are open to participation in humanity, as one entity, have no hesitancy in engaging in humanity learning.
While others turn away distractedly, these unique learners turn aside, abide expectantly, and delight in the newly-possible, radiantly.
