Calling Circle (October)

Report on our monthly humanity inquiry call ...

We held the fourth of our new monthly humanity-inquiry calls on 16 October 2023.

In this month's inquiry, we moved into the unfoldment of moral imperatives; being that stage where the humanity contributive decide personally, the difference between opportunity and responsibility. The expression used historically is the choicing for those who 'cannot not do'.

We noted Ursula Le Guin's apocryphal short story ' The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas' (1973). The prescient passage reads:

"They go on. They leave Omelas, they walk ahead into the darkness, and they do not come back. The place they go towards is a place even less imaginable to most of us than the city of happiness. I cannot describe it at all. It is possible that it does not exist. But they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas."

We feel we know where they walk towards.

The addition to the Humanity Library this month was a taxonomy for this inquiry form. It defines 'characteristics', 'indicia', 'attributes' and 'unfoldments'. This is needed as the architecture of what we are discovering now being uncovered - is becoming increasingly nuanced.

If you have a sense you may be one of the humanity contributive, consider joining our inquiry, before we have extended past the jumping on point, in a further reaching trajectory.
