Report on our monthly humanity inquiry call.
As a follow up to our Event last year, Apitholo will be hosting a new form of humanity inquiry once a month for the next year.
The term ‘humanity inquiry’ describes a set of communal inquiry forms specific to the field of apithology. They are in the same lineage as David Bohm’s dialogue and Gregory Bateson’s metalogue, only extended to forms of humanity-centric apithologue.
This particular inquiry format will be designed to support our current research question: ‘What are the characteristics of those who are called to be humanity contributive … .’
The present name for this form of inquiry is a ‘Calling Circle’. The name reflects three meanings of the word calling: 1. an inner urge or compelling impulse, 2. the action of making a sound causing a response, 3. an occupation or profession that becomes a vocation. I like these three meanings of calling, which potentially can reflect how apithology uses emergent trichotomies.
Participation will be open to those registering at apitholo and meeting a couple of learning requisites regarding expectations and etiquettes.
The first call was held on 16 July 2023 and we looked at seven preliminary questions of appropriateness and structure.
We determined that this inquiry was different to a Humanity Circle, and also was not the welcoming call for new students. It is somewhere in between.
While it is a form of apithologue, prior experience with that format would not be necessary. Because it's a new inquiry form, the next call would experiment with a regular format.
This seems like the right thing to do at this right time.
